Shovaine Singh has spent much of her life using her personal and career experiences to help others overcome eating disorders and food insecurity, and to develop and maintain a healthy lifestyle. She presently works at Highland Care Center as the lead Dietitian and Common Thread as a Nutrition Educator for children.
She provides her patients and clients with the support they need when their lives seem to be more than they can handle. As the daughter of a chef and a nurse, she knows how lacking the right nutrients and access to food can affect every facet of one’s life as well as the lives of their loved ones. While her focus is on the elderly in nursing homes, she also provides services for children and their families who are dealing with food insecurity situations and lifestyle changes of their own. She knows there is no single approach that works for everyone, so she continues to educate herself on emerging nutrition trends to provide the most comprehensive program that works for each of her client’s individual needs.
She received her education at Lehman College with a Master’s in Organizational Leadership. Bachelor’s Degree in Dietetics, Foods and Nutrition and Minor in Early Childhood Development. She also holds an Associate’s Degree in Health Sciences from Queensborough Community College.
Outside of the office, she is an avid reader of health topics and loves camping. On weekends, for the past 14 years, you would find her teaching boys of varying ages, in a mentoring program. Through this program, she teaches various skills which include healthy eating and lifestyle changes.
